We played a couple of small F&F games at the weekend. I got slaughtered by my 11 year old Son on both occasions but that's a story for another time. Maybe after I've had the opportunity to concoct some suitable excuses. ;D
One question did arise. A Ganger was pinned in combat by a Zombie. The Ganger was then charged by another Zombie and failed his Fear test and had to recoil.
Does the first Zombie get a Free Hack at the recoiling Ganger?.
We played it that the Zombie did but now I'm not sure. I'm certain the answers in the rules but can I find it...?.

I think you're right ,there's a free hack as the Ganger is forced to leave combat.
The problem i've had in F+F zombie games is that whenever zombies charge survivours the survivours fail at least 1 of their fear test dice and recoil before the zombies get to them. As they are standard slow zeds this recoil almost always put the survivours out of range of the zombie charge. The zombie players were getting very frustrated. It didnt happen with the modern fast zombies though. Dex

Cheers Dex,
It would have been handy if my survivors had failed a few more fear tests, this might have stopped them being pinned and then mobbed.
I found pinning survivors to be a useful tactic.
Didn't stop me getting massacred though.

was looking at the rules for free hacks ,and it was worse than i thought for your ganger . The last paragraph on freehacks says that if u are fleeing because of a failed fear test then that free hack is classed as lethal ,so if the zed beats your roll by just one that ganger dies. nasty!

Didn't stop me getting massacred though. If you are being charged by a monster and you manage to make your fear save you do have the option of taking a FREE shot at the creature charging at you . So you do have a chance of initially not being pinned.

Wouldn't have mattered too much for the Ganger in question as he was only armed with a melee weapon.
I remembered the recoils being lethal rule but had totally forgotten the firing at charging monsters rule.
Time for a spot of revision.
Thanks for the replies.

The idea here is that a recoil caused by fear is basically a fleeing movement (panic), so the attack is a free hack. Zombie players should use the survivors' recoil to "herd them" where you want them (e.g. against walls or the edges of table).

the only downside with herding is that the zombie player feels frustrated that he hasn't managed to chomp down on a survivor. So far we have played five zombie games with slow zombies and every time when a survivor is charged they have failed their save on at least one dice and recoiled . maybe its down to bad dice rolling on the survivors part, he has a rep as being a poor roller .
I suppose it's deferred gratification ,as eventually the shamblers manage to herd the survivors and feast on the flesh. Dex
