I am wanting to put together a bit of an anime game (Bubblegum Crisis, AD Police and Mobile Suit Girls type of thing) and I was wondering if the MDRG rules are suitable to do this?

I'm not familiar with that anime, what does it need? MDRG has its own setting and the tables, weapons etc are built to reflect that setting. If you need to stat out different weapons, armor types etc then it's not the right game, you must wait for the SF rules.

A quick Google/Wiki search tells me that the upcoming Flying Lead rulebook will be perfect for the type of game you are looking for. It will include rules for: - Armour - Well it's mobile suit after all.
- Heavy Ordinance - That whould be all those big guns those terribly small girls seem to be carrying.
- Vehicles - I see mention of tanks a lot in this genre.
You could use MDRG in the meantime, using the stats for Pure Humans, Mutated Animals etc. for the various characters you wish to represent. However, I would select the various mutations you require to create Cat-Girls etc. (i.e. Humanoid) and I would limit the number of models with Power Armour, or your game might last all night! On the whole, MDRG would suit a Post-Apocalyptic/Anime setting (without any vehicles I'm afraid). While Flying Lead will give you all the options you are looking for... if you can wait that long... I know I can't! Check out the MDRG Constructed Handbook, available on the Ganesha Games Yahoo Group (also available in Free Hack #2... I think). You can use it to create your own models for MDRG... and it's free! ;D

No real armor rules in FL unless you just need flak jackets and the like. I suspect shelldrake wants power armor of different kinds. Technically you could come up with your own tweaks by combining the two books but it's a bit of work I'm afraid. Vehicles and tanks are in, but most FL models are not able to take on a tank and survive unless equipped with proper AT weaponry :-)

Yeah, looks like you're looking for the eventual scifi book that in the works.
MDRG is more for post-Apocalyptic fun. Scarce resources and ammo in a world gone wrong.

If you combine MDRG with selected SBH abilities you can do pretty good anime (I've stated up GitS for fun but havn't played with them yet) I just took one of the excell builders from the yahoo group and rebuilt it to include both games.

Agree. While waiting for a sci fi ruleset if I were you I'll choose SBH, you can simply see the rules under a more sci-fi vision, so for example the magic can represent psi power, the heavy armour can represent power armor and so on. If the rules name is fantasy that doesn't mean that you can use them only in fantasy setting. This is what I'm doing for my steampunk miniatures.

i'd go with Roburs suggestion, a lot of the abilities in SBH renamed should work fine until sci fi rules proper appear,

we wait also for a sci-fi set to use this fast and nice rules set for some skirmish using warhammer 40k miniatures but the problem are not the different weapons/abilities but more the different armours. here there isn't any save roll and until now these rules (SDS and SBH) but also in the future WWII also Flying Led don't use personal armor (the opponent have the same armor/toughness)...if not just only heavy armour or tought will be a lot of work !!!

the SF rules will have different types of power armor, from exoskeletons that enhance strength to WalkTanks that are fully robotic, armored suits. We will likely do a builder for these, so you can customize them to a certain extent. The most powerful ones will be the equivalent of a one-man MBT. But the SF rules are still far, be patient :-)

But the SF rules are still far, be patient :-) I am looking forward to the full SF rules. I am also excited about the MDRG Assault on Neo-Tokyo supplement. Are there rules for various mecha/hardsuits/armours in ANT? Neo-Tokyo sounds quite like a place where the Bubblegum Crisis girls might hang out (from the little that I know about them).

I havent seen those figures before, they look like a lot of fun. Pretty much perfect for that style of anime gaming I would think Make sure that you post some photos when you get them painted.

Hi i don't know if you've seen these figures in the flesh so to speak. They are 25mm and very slender. Even in power armour they look skinny compared to other figures. They are dwarfed by 28mm figs both true and heroic. I may still own a set somewhere ,if i do i'll take some pics for comparison hope this helps Dex

yes there will be several robots and suits in ANT. Also a giant spider shaped vehicle and samurai on robotic horses, and cyber ninjas with monowire shuriken ... light hearted SF fun.
