This Summer, Village Games will be hosting The Hell Grinder, a Flying Lead League.
What
A challenge league designed to test out the limits of Flying Lead.
Cost
Free!
When
The league will run from June 22nd to August 3rd.
The kick-off event will be at 7pm on June 22nd. The wrap-up event will be on August 3rd at 7pm.
How
At the Kick-Off event, all players will receive the contact information of the players in the league. After that, players simply challenge each other to a match during the 6-week league cycle. Players may challenge each other as often as they want.
All matches must be played at Village Games.
After each match, the players submit a signed results form.
Rules Books Used
All players must own a copy of Flying Lead. The rules from pages 1 through 24 will be used. Everything from page 25 onward is outside the scope of the current league cycle.
All units and weapons will be built using the online tools at the Ganesha Games web site.
Units
The purpose of this league is to test the limits of the Flying Lead rules. As such, players are encouraged to find the cheesiest, most broken units allowed by the game.
Each player will field a force built with 600 points using the official Flying Lead tools found on Ganesha’s website. Player are allowed to change their forces between matches. However, there are some rules.
1) All models must be WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get). In other words, if a unit is built with a sword, its model must have a sword.
2) Pistols have a max Combat Bonus of +1; rifles, +2; heavy weapons, +3; and Crewed Weapons, +4. So, no “Noisy Crickets”.
3) The trait “Affects Only Living Targets” is not allowed for obvious reasons.
Miniatures
Players may use any individually based figure in the 25mm to 28mm range. Bases can be any size and shape. All figures must be painted with a finished base. Pre-painted figures may be used.
For rule's purposes, the standard base is a round 25mm base.
Players are responsible for their own measuring sticks and at least 3 6-sided dice.
Terrain
All games will be played on a 3' by 3' board. A default game-mat and terrain box will be available for use on a first come, first serve basis. If the terrain box is not available, player must provide their own terrain. Felt cut-outs are not acceptable.
Matches
There is only one scenario for the Hell-Grinder League Cycle: King of the Hill. The scenario will be played twice with each player having a turn being the defender. The terrain and force lists are not changed between the two games of a match.
Prizes
The prize pool starts at $0. For each match played and submitted, the prize pool increases by $1. At the end of the league cycle, three prizes will be handed out: 1st place, 2nd place, and Most Matches.
League Scoring
The league will use an Elo rating system to determine overall placing. This is the system used by Chess and Magic the Gathering.
The Most Matches score is determine by the total number of matches that a player has played minus four times his Average Deviation. This is to encourage players to play all the other players an equal number of times.
Anyone interested in the details in how either system works, see Mike Z; however, be prepared to hear Math.
Sign-up will begin on June 6. A series of demos will be held to teach the game.
If there are any questions, feel free to ask.
