Tonight's game will be following the exploits in our new found AVBCW love ...
Enfield wants Women …
A pulp based scenario from a mini campaign for Flying Lead based on the alternative 1930s timeline of ‘A Very British Civil War’ fleshed out by Solway Crafts and Miniatures Publications.
The 30s were a turbulent time eventually ending in open Civil War when in 1936 Edward VIII refused to give up his intent to marry an American divorcee (Wallis Simpson) calling Baldwin’s (the Prime Minister) bluff to dissolve parliament. It wasn’t a bluff and the other parties came out in support, refusing to form a Government. The only option for Edward was too ask his friend Oswald Mosley to form a Government using his British Union Fascists … from there is all went downhill.
Our story today occurs in late1937 … Mosley’s cronies includes Aleister Crowley (Al'istar K'rawlee) who is making the most of the increase in interest in the occult. Setting up in Epping Forest Crowley quickly attracted a number of high profile supporters and a large amount of followers, some keen on escaping the dire 30s … some hungry for power of any kind and some just drawn to Crowley like flies to a light. Occult power comes with a price however … it had long been thought that Crowley managed to finance his occult church by being a spy for the secret services, using his travels around the world and influence to prise information out of many of the world’s leading governments. The other price is obviously an ethical one … with more than one literal sacrifice to be taken into account. His latest venture had resulted in a ‘meeting’ being called for 5 days hence … a meeting to initiate a lot of high profiled people … but to bind them in, to make sure they had to stay with him he needed a sacrifice … not the local unfortunate lamb or goat but a real sacrifice … one they would never be able to turn against him with, one which implicated them into criminal activity … the sacrifice had to be human!
Following an ex game keeper’s advice ‘never go poaching on your doorstep’ he decided to go ‘virgin’ collecting in far away Cornwall … once he had acquired some victims a quick dash back through Devon (where the Royal Devonshire Lights would make their journey safe) and he would soon be spreading some blood around his guests!
Getting the women had been easy … a bit of a fake society soirée had pulled the want to be farmer’s wives in, a bit of a spiked punch and Bob’s your Uncle … the kidnappers who had a BUF escort had a head start before it was realised the woman were missing but then a few phone calls and the local ‘Kernow Separatist League’ cell was hot on the trail. In fact their knowledge of the local lanes meant they had passed the kidnappers by the time they reached an inland bridge over the Tamar and therefore Devon. A quick 4x2 with some nails in across the road stopped the lead wheeled vehicle … while they were trying to change the tyre one of the farmer’s wives (they breed them tough in Kernow remember) placed a well aimed stiletto into a place that would make even Crowley cry coincided with the KSL appearing from the surrounding area … they wanted their women back!
Table : the table should be contain a bridge over a river that is not fordable by normal vehicles elsewhere but treated as difficult terrain for humans (short movement only). The rest of the table should be heavily populated with terrain.
Forces: normal 600 point forces with Crowley’s mob having two vehicles and an accompanying Panzer 1. The KSL have bought their only Morris armoured car to the party.
Victory conditions – normal FL victory conditions plus an extra 2 points for every female of the 4 taken off the appropriate table edge KSL off the edge to Cornwall, BUF off the Devon edge.
Optional rules … The BUF can decline to take the panzer 1 … instead starting at the end of turn one the BUF player rolls a dice on a roll of a 6 a leader led patrol of Devon Light Infantry appear on a random table edge and can be used by the BUF player on subsequent turns:
DLI Officer Q3 C2 pistol; Leader
DLI NCO Q3 C3 Rifle
