Hi I have had a few emails to ask about the use of the speculative fire -3 on the ranged combat chart, so here goes:
As well as the use outlined in the rules, about firing at 'hidden targets' it can be used to: Fire at targets the firer 'knows' are there but can not see, examples of this would be people in non bullet proof structures who you have seen enter or have fired and then moved away from window etc, but who are not visible through a window/gap, even to firing through internal non brick walls. Firing at the occupants of a van or truck who are not visible. Firing at troops that have been seen to move behind terrain blocking LOS. Firing in the complete dark at targets you know are there, ie you just saw their muzzle flash etc. Once the -3 is taken plus any range and cover modifiers a kill or OOA result is unlikely but you may just sneak a shaken or seek cover which is what it is aimed at really.
