Amazons vs. Orcs in the mossy vales.
Not a full blow by blow battle report, but some nice pictures from last nights game between I, Mange's Mangler orcses and My wifes mainly Amazon barbarian horde.
It was nice to finally get to play with the scenery I made a few months ago. The minis are a mix of classic 1980s citadel and modern Reaper figures. Details on my blog if you want to find them.
The battle was a straight up fight between evenly matched characters- 1 leader and 1 large creature each.
Up until now I have been trying to play a ratmen hordes made up of smaller gregarious creatures- but I find this unplayable- without fail the last six battles resulted in my whole force running off the board by turn 3 with cascading routing. Low quality means lots of double fails and passes- so they are not much fun to play. It boiled down to trying to run my army as deep into the board so that they would not run off the first time any of their mates gets thwacked.
Definately worth a look at the game mechanics here- Andrea- maybe something along the lines of gregarious creatures get +1 to fear rolls for every mate in short distance- except when a leader is lost). Having to buy fearless for everything kinda negates having the rules.
Anyway, back to the battle.
The orcs drive deep through the woods- not realising they are home to the dreaded tribe of Phyless the Amazon Queen.
Mangler's Ogre smells an ambush, moments later he strides across the board ready to flank the amazon command.
The Barbarians divide into two arms, trapping the orcs between standing stones and a murky pond no one dares cross. The Barbarian cleaves the first two orcs in two- but those remaining are fearless at his gory wake.
Mangler falls back to the woods to make use of ambush bonus- it doesnt save him- moments later four barbarians and the demon they summon encircle him.
Thinned down, the orcs fall back to a tight space between the pond and the stones, however the demons long move circles behind and halts their escape. After a valiant swipe manglers replacement knocks the demon down, but a moment later the entire barbarian horde was upon him- and he and his ragged band quickly fell.
There are pics of the amazons on my blog- (are partially naked so I did not want to post here-) www.kingsminis.blogspot.com as well as lots of mini stuff if your interested.
Result: Barbarians win- slaying every orc without casualty.
My wife is now gloating.
Next time in the woods, my boys will be packing bows. Lots of bows.
Hope you like- next battle will have blow by blow photos.
