more about plastic and metal miniatures, we saw here some HAT 28mm propainted...
HAT 28m figures have a good size so you can mix with other 28mm plastic and metal ranges (don't confuse the HAT 28mm (little) range with the more popular HAT 1/72 range, same sprue same poses but very different size!!!)
The size is good but the human proportion of the soldiers is little different, so if you mix you can see a difference, don't mix inside the same squad/unit but better mix inside an army.
Remember that is the same inside different metal ranges, so if you choose a Front Rank (the largest 28mm around) is little different from a Crusader, Foundry or Elite soldier.
"Generally I find that Perry and Elite are about the same size, stature and height; while Victrix and Front Rank are the same height but have a different girth and stature. Foundry are shorter than all 4. I find that they can all go in the same army, but not in the same unit"
The cheap price is a very good thing in the HAT plastic range but the amount of details is lower than that you can find in a Front Rank 28mm soldiers for example but also in a Victrix plastic range.
You have indeed the basic details that permit a good shade and highlight but nothing more than this. If you are a propainter this soldiers will be very nice on the table.
Victrix are little more detailed but you have a lot of work, there are too many pieces to glue. HAT is a lot easier to assembly, right?
"This sprue has gone through three variations since we started work on it, with a fourth production version under work at the moment." so HAT is working hard to make better plastic soldiers...
The napoleonic plastic range on the market now is good but not so good like Game Workshop Warhammer plastic range (my opinion the best plastic ever). If the market will sell more plastic in the future the quality will be better very soon (is only a question of more expensive tools).
In a skirmish set like SDS today I prefer to spend little more to have better detailed figures and more with different poses (I don't need a whole box of plastic miniatures marching to play SDS), if you plan to play bigger size games, HAT-Victrix and Perry plastic ranges are cheaper and figures made for wargamers, so a lot of marching poses
again if you never played a napoleonic game and you want to give a try without spend too much, the plastic 28mm boxes are a perfect choice!
