I love me some Mindflayers. Are there any powers in SOBH that simulate anything like that?

I don't think there is any ability that will actually allow you to control the opponents models, but I think the Distract ability could be used to simulate the mental paralysis ability of Mind Flayers. Their mind control ability could be simulated by using various models from other armies as thralls in your list.

i just playtested shadowsea, and they have a "telepath" that should fit what you're looking for. keep your eyes peeled, should be out soon.

Yes, it's An expansion / stand alone game. It's got all kinds of new SRs as well as some major (awesome) twists on magic, incorporeal creatures, interactive terrain, and more. It will have a line of minis for the provided profiles as well ( many out already, info/ link at the site). Edit: until then the distract power would be great for mind flayers, like the stun power. Give the boss magic user or assassin. Here is a profile I came up with: Mind flayer Points 78 Quality 2+ Combat 3 Special Rules: Danger Sense, Distract, Evil, Greedy, Savage
Three of these and some cheep slaves ( meat shield) would be scary dangerous. Shut down attackers then savage kill em ( eat brains). Rinse and repeat. You could even beef one a bit to make it a boss by giving it magic user instead of distract, or better yet making it more combat capable ( boost c and a combat ability).

Thanks for info. I may have to get that expansion. I wonder if the warband tool will add those powers.
Anyway, love the Mindflayer profile. I never thought to use distract. That way I dont have to use all my personality points just on them.
I have my eye on a few d and d mindflayer minis and one from Reaper.

Oh man. I just was thinking (a lot of spare time today)... How about a Mindflayer with Distract and Necromancer? Raising the dead could symbolize taking control of a downed hero. He'd be a final challenge for a dungeon crawl.

That's a great idea for a boss. You could call the raised ones thralls. I seem to remember som ithillid fluff where they put goo in empty heads to make zombie type things. A few of the non- personality flayers in the mix could make that a really nasty final encounter. Either way it sounds fun. I liked your idea so much I built a 300pt warband list that I really want to try. I included human slaves with the animal rule (I think the animal rule works well for slaves) to fill out the list, and gave the boss sorcerer and c4. As far as tool updates, I'm sure it'll get them. Song of splintered lands is stand-alone and it's in the latest build.

I like animal/slave idea. It makes for a cool mechanic with sorcerer.
So Im chekcing the warband builder on the ganesha games. net site and cant seem to find any song of splinter abilities on there. Am I looking in the wrong place?

It's a good one. It only has a handful of unique rules, but they are useful, ESP in low q warbands. There are some great rules for fortifications, ballista and terrain. The provided profiles are good too. All in all it's a solid sup, but it reallyvshines as a campaign.
