I've been playing SBH fairly regularly for just over a year now and have to say my friends and I still find it a blast. Lacking imagination my games are generally set in a Warhammer/Old World setting (this may also have to do with the limitations of my miniature collection, too!). I've used the Warband Builder engine to create specific 'army lists' for each race and tried to keep the use of Special Rules to a minimum (most races will use about 15 Special Rules in total), as I feel that if over-used they can detract from the very simplicity that defines the system.
I was very pleased when the Sharpshooter rule was introduced as a way of specifying dedicated missile troops. However, I would also very much like to see a rule governing gunpowder weapons - entitled 'Black Powder', I thought - and considered that its practical effect could be that any model targeted by a shooter with a Black Powder weapon should receive a -1 modifier to their Combat score, to represent the power of this new-fangled weaponry. I wonder, is there any way I could accurately calculate the points cost for such a 'house rule'? Certainly it'd give my Imperial Outriders and Harquebusiers an extra kick and lend to such weapons a dread reputation amongst more primitive opponents. Any help would be much appreciated!

Oi, I'm sure I sound like a fanboy/ broken record (I am), but you can expect to see blackpowder weapons in shadowsea, from pistols, and bombs to cannons, as well as pulp steam weapons and items.

Cheers. Is there a release date for this supplement? Also, I was wondering in the meantime if anybody could let me in on how the points values for Special Rules were calculated (so I could come up with an interim 'Black Powder' rule, as mentioned in my previous post). I mean, I still buy all - well, most - of the supplements anyway so I assure you I'm not trying to be a cheapskate! Ta

I dont know a ton about black powder weapons but werent they more likely to backfire? If so maybe change the "Missle Expendistre Rule"?
When you roll a natural "1" roll another die. On a roll of "1" or "2" gun backfires and you can no longer use the shooter ability.
Anyway, I think black powder rules would be great. I ran across a great looking dwarf mini with dual pistols. Gotta love that.

On a roll of "1" or "2" gun backfires and you can no longer use the shooter ability. I did consider that. Perhaps the Missile Expenditure rules could stay the same, but, instead of running out of ammo et cetera on two 1s, the model is instead removed as a casualty as the weapon explodes in his face! Adds a certain element of risk, I suppose... So here we go:
Black Powder
Models with this Special Rule are equipped with a ranged weapon that utilises gunpowder technology. Any model targeted by a Black Powder weapon receives a -1 modifier to their Combat score. In addition, if a model discharging a Black Powder weapon fails his Missile Expenditure roll (i.e. two unmodified 1s (SBH, p.9)) he is removed from play as the weapon fatally explodes or backfires in his face! Nice and simple, which is how I like to keep things in SBH. Any thoughts?

I suppose it may seem a bit harsh, but then how often do the Missile Expenditure rules get used in an average game? Rarely, in my experience at least. In fact I don't think they've come up in the last three battles I've played (between 600-1,000 point affairs). Okay, plenty of 1's were rolled by Shooters, but none were unlucky enough to repeat it! I guess the free-hack idea does make things less arbitrary, though. What would its Combat be, do you think? 3, perhaps?
