The American Shield
Q 3 C 5 points : 85 pts
Accuracy 3 Pts 30
Leadership 5 Pts 200
Super Agility 1 Pts: 50
Armor 5 Pts 100
Total Points: 460 pts
The question is, does The American Shields shield count as Armor?
When a hero has multiple abilities, like The American Shield, how do you do him or her justice with out a huge amount of points?
Would the typical points game be 1,000? In this a case AS can have this many points with some side kicks.
Speaking of side kicks, is there a bonus for having one, such as Like Minded, a team bonus + 1 to Q for one round?
Thanks,
Paul T.

I would say Armor 5 must be taken with the following limitations; let's say "Must make a Q roll to work. If user doesn't make the Q roll, armor does not count. If user is hit by a surprise attack (ambush bonus), armor does not count. If Shield is taken away, Armor does not count. Does not work against magic or psionic attacks. Does not work against Entangle."
It's so many special limitations that I think it is just easier to add an "indestructible Shield" power to the game. I would say at least halving the final costs. I'll add it. Funny I forgot this-- it's my all-time favorite character.

That sounds like a great idea.
Any thoughts on side kicks and bonuses if they and the hero are a playing together? Like Rat Man and The Wren?
Also, because of everything you must add to give due credit to the characters, what would be a typical pt total for teams? 1000 pts?
Thanks

I haven't given much thought to the point cost totals, this is where playtesters should suggest... let us create a few manageable superhero teams, say 3-5 supers per players and let's reverse engineer the point totals. I use a point system in my books because most people will want that, but I am not a great believer in point systems... so during my initial tests we just used the characters that felt right and gave them the stats that worked in a "simulation of comic books" context. I suspect the point total will be close to 1000 for a typical game but it also depends on the scale of conflict. Cosmic teams should be created with more points.
Maybe you can use this method: one player stats up a few characters he wants to use, totals them, and then his opponent gets the same amount of points and does the same.

Sidekicks-- I would rule that they must be created with less points than the main hero (say half) and get a reroll per game in any situation where they: 1) attack a villain who has downed the hero 2) give support to the hero in melee 3)use a healing power on a hero 4) anything else as dictated by the scenario.
If the main hero is gone, the sidekick gets no reroll.
If he sidekick is knocked out, the hero will use hid first next actions to bring the sidekick to safety carrying his body out of the table or administering any healing power. Failure to do so causes the loss of one Fate point to the hero's team.
Just my first idea... will add a Sidekick rule in next revision.
